New computer question?

I just bought a new computer and am trying to install antivirus software on it. The problem is that i need to know whether my computer is a 32 bit vista system or a 64 bit, but i am unsure what it means by "bit" and how i can tell the difference. Can you please explain?

thanks

If you have a 64bit processor or a 32bit processor. Your computer manual will tell you what processor is installed. If it says "dual-core", AMD64, or similar it will be 64bit. If still not sure, post the model of your computer and I will let you know.

Look at the specs for your computer, it will tell you what your processor is, either 32 bit or 64 bit. Another way to do this is to download cpu-z a small program that will tell you everything you need to know about your processor and memory.
