Is windowsXP service pack 2 better than windowsXP?

I was told it does not require an additional antivirus software? Is this True?

Is windowsXP service pack 2 better than windowsXP?computer protection

Windows XP Service Pack (SP) 2 is not only "better" it is a requirement if you are using windows XP. SP2 is an "upgrade" if you will to the original shipment of Windows XP. It offers fixes for a number of security holes and other bugs in the software. In addition as part of some of the security fixes, it brings a standard firewall to windows which is on by default. It also Enables automatic windows update by default. And lets not forget the pop-up blocker added to Internet explorer.

Service pack2 does not however add anysort of anti-virus protection. This is still software you will want to purchase from companies like trend micro, symantec, mcafee, etc..

Ultimately there were alot of updates done to windows XP with Service Pack 2. If you have a machine running windows xp and put it on the internet you MUST install SP2.

hopefully this helps.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is an update to Windows XP. You can get it off of the microsoft website. It adds a few more features. Fixes a lot a security holes and bugs in the OS. It also strengthens security and adds a firewall. You still need to use Antivirus.
Windows XP, Service Pack 2, closes many security holes from the original version of Windows XP and from Service Pack 1. It also introduced a new feature, the Security Center, which monitors the status of your antivirus protection and firewall protection. It does NOT have any antivirus software of its own, though; it only checks the status of your installed antivirus software to make sure it's working and up to date. You can read more about the Security Center and protecting your PC at the page below:
