Faulty laptop?

Hi, thanks for the responses..The laptop is not doing anything at this time..so I can't go to any websites to download antivirus software. Or can I just input the disks I got from him and try that? Or pursue trying to get my money back?

Try the disks first then go back to the store!

You don't say if the computer will turn on at all. If it does then install the XP disk. Turn off the computer. Turn it back on and immediately start tapping the ESC key repeatedly until the System Recovery screen appears. When the screen comes up offering you two options choose the CD-ROM option and then follow the instructions from there. Remember, you need to use the UP/DOWN arrows and enter key when doing this.
Well you can try to download a free anti-virus program from the net on the computer you are using now. Here is a google search for you.

Download one and save it to a disk. Put it in the other compuer and run it.

If you have the disk he gave you go ahead and do that. It does not seem like you have any information on it yet. So you won't lose anything. That was you will be sure it has been reformatted.
