Is it possible for word, pdf, and jpg files to be infected with viruses?

Whenever the antivirus software detects a virus in my computer, the infected file is always a system file or programe file, you know.

Any file can be infected by a virus. But, I don't think that's what you mean. I have a feeling your question should be - is it possible to become infected through such files. The answers is both yes and no. Yes, but not directly. Usually the file contains some type of metadata that only infects the system when used in conjunction with it's default program.

anything can be infected with viruses

that why you get an anti virus program
Word files are popular for their Macro Viruses.

I am pretty sure JPEG files can be infected as well...
Any file type can be effected by viruses, that's how life if, they program a new software noneffectable by viruses and then hackers crack it and then WHAM! virus infection!
Word files can contain macros that can cause problems.

The problem with the other file type is that most people have the option set on their computer to hide extensions. They may see a file name of cat.jpg which is really cat.jpg.exe. They don't question it when they see the jpg extension which normally would not show. Same with song.mpg which may really be song.mpg.exe.
of course. because virus can infected any file. so if you dont want any viruses infected your file, yuo must use good antivirus.
