Hi. I used to have installed Norton antivirus in my laptop and that was the software my msn messenger was using to analyze received files. I unistalled norton and changed to AVG but I cannot get my received files searched for viruses. Does anybody know how to do so?

Okay so I was searching for something on Google, and I accidently clicked this link and it was really weird because the page didn't really say anything so I went back really fast and this pop up comes up for an antispyware software called IE Anitivirus. I was really confused because I didn't download it, so I removed it from my programs, but now everytime I go on the internet a message comes up every 5 seconds that says "Your computer is infected with a dangerous virus. An anitispyware software is recommended. Click Ok to dowload the antivirus" and when I search for something on google a message comes up in the middle of the links that says "Your computer was infected by a dangerous virus. Some results was changed by porn advertising, your passwords are no more safe." I'm really confused because I didn't look up porn or anything. I've scanned and removed viruses in my computer with EMSI software, avast! software and Spypot Search %26 Destroy. The message is still coming up. I need help!

Hardware firewalls are always better than software ones. I recommend getting a router.

A modem connection is much safer than that of a router. With what you have, I think you're pretty much well safe.

Just remember, in networks there is no such thing as a secure networking.
You have sufficient software protection, the only other thing to do is make sure file and printer sharing is turned off in the network settings. If you want to really get parpnoid, encrypt all files with a strong password.
Since you don't have a router, you don't have a wireless signal floating around for people to use. Cable is probably the most secure source of internet, and you have decent security software. So your home network should be secure.
Not familiar with the last one, and last time I checked, Comodo firewall was still beta.

All that notwithstanding, your protection is only as good as your configuration of any tools you have.

Not only that , but it is critically important that you are up to date on all software versions you use, including the above and your operating system, and also your anti-virus definitions.

Still there are no guarantees, but those are some of the basic principles.

Well not everybody but a lot of people that I asked where could i get SP2 told me to go microsoft update and when I went there all it did was download other things but it never really downloaded SP2. I tried searching it in their search bar it siad sownload software in window's update. I clicked on there and it didn't even download it. So what do I do? I need SP2 for Itunes and other softwares. Plus I need it so that my antivirus will work. Please help!!!

P.S. What's the difference between SP2 and SP4? Should I download both?

Sounds like it has some serious hardware issues. If you can take it back..I would suggest doing so...either that or your OS is really really messed up (viruses/spyware etc). You may want to completely wipe it with your manufacturers restore disks before you try and take it back.

all of the "essential" stuff is already there....media player, firewall, Internet browser, email program, disk utilities, etc. What you need in addition to that is an antivrus program like AVG or similar. There's a free version that works as well as the paid version....other than that its really up to what you want it do.

Hello I am running a XP SP2 1 GB RAM P4 2.8 GHz and I have a few free light security software on my computer including (Spyware Blaster, Avast AntiVirus, ADAware SE, Pc Cillin Internet Security [The Updates have expired so now I use it mainly as a firewall])

On an occasion when I am browsing a window appears saying firefox has encountered an error and needs to close. Coinsidentally it happens a lot when I have to firefox screens up or a yahoo mail up. Why is this happening?

If it helps to know I turned Windows Firewall off because it kept blocking my online gaming (Steam - which is counterstrike, cs cource, condition zero....)

But security is the number one thing you should take care of. Updates and programs to fight the threats out there. If you look you will find them free. And the ones I named are not just trials. They are for the life of the license agreement. Finally find an ISP that will block out a lot of the known threats in emails and such. You might pay more, but the peace of mind is worth it.
it's not just firefox. internet explorer does that to me sometimes too. just a glitch - remember, nothing's perfect
Does it happen at certain websites? Sometimes webpages just crash your browser, like Heavy.com. When I'm on a media link site they don't tell you it's a link to Heavy.com so when the window opens and it's Heavy.com I say "DAMMIT HEAVY!" and shut the window and then Firefox crashes. I multitask too much so I'm always switching windows too so sometimes it crashes that way.
Try reinstalling firefox or updating it. It may be doing that because of corrupted browser or outside mallicious access to ur computer. Turn on firewall and see if it helps.. its recommended to keep it on anyways.. if u want to play online games just add these programs and the ports they use to the exception list.
try uninstalling and reinstalling firefox....

Well, the fist thing is, I wouldn't use Kazaa at all because it is full of spyware, at least the free version is. Uninstall it and run a spyware scanner (Adaware SE Personal, Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender) remove any traces of spyware they find. Once you are rid of the cursed Kazaa, get FrostWire, it's similar to LimeWire and it's made by the same people who do LimeWire except FrostWire is the open source version of LimeWire pro, http://www.frostwire.com/ %26lt; (hehe, missed it?), better P2P software.

Why will my Lexmark 3100 all in one printer not print in color?

Brother gave me the all in one 3100 printer and the color cartridge was bad on it, so i ordered another one and put it in and it still will not print in color. When i try to automatically align it, it says it can not do it, my brother also told me to take a damp rag with alcohol on it and gently wipe the bottom of the cartridge cause sometimes dried up ink is on it, so i did and still no luck. I am having a fit over here with his printer, has given me problems since i got it. first the software would not download until i disabled my antivirus and now this. Please help and i am not in the mood for no sarcastic B.S. comments, only inteligent people answer. PLEASE HELP!!!

yes usb needs to be connected unless you're using wireless server, verify that windows wizard did not install drivers, but you did with cd, check usb cable, or try another one for now to test, possibly check settings on printers manual setup by it self, then run maintenance software and check installations and alignment settings,

First off. Get a core 2 duo processor. This is a must. You will not be able to get good results unless the "brain" of your computer is good. A good processor is you brain.

You must have at least 2GB of ram. From the specs I assume that you are buying at a site like dell. If this is the case, go with the least amount of ram possible and then simply purchase additional 1GB sticks at Newegg.com. Good 1GB sticks of ram are as little as $35 a stick for newer computers.

There are some major issues here.

First, if it is going for 350, it is going awfully cheap. Almost too good to be true.

Second, there is no such thing as a Dual Core Intel Celeron. Intel does not make such a processor.

Third, it has onboard Intel graphics which will not be sufficient to play decent games.

It sounds to me like it might be a bit of a scam... considering they don't even know what processor is installed in it.

256 ram? You will be soooooo pissed!!! You should not even consider less than 1 gig.

256 video ram (on a seperate video card) is pretty good, but if you are doing a lot of video rendering or editing, you may want to consider more!

Dude... reinstalling windows is the best way you can solve these problems. It always work because it deletes everything on your computer, and nothing can come back. So beware. It will work. My grandfather called up and told me the internet on his account wasn't working. I told him to try it on my xp account and he said the firefox didn't work but then the IE worked. After that he logged in back on his account and the internet was working there too. For about a day or two, he would have to go through this process to get the internet working on his account, until it stopped working on my account as well. Even though he can't access the internet, there is an internet connection icon on the status bar. The interesting thing is that even though I can't browse the internet on the internet browsers, my other programs seem to have access to the internet. Spybot could update its definitions and my email program can connect to gmail. Spybot and Adaware only found tracking cookies and my avast antivirus is coming out negative. Could the Creative or ATI software be affecting something with the internet connection??

I have some serious problems with my computer. Everytime I try to log onto the internet, there is a popup that reminds you to clean your computer with Anti-Virus program, and it is nonstop. On my desktop there is a message that reads,

Your IP Address is 66.32.8.175 and via this address an unauthorized access was gained by another computer. It is strongly reccomended to install an antispyware software to close all security vulnerabilities."

What do I do to fix this problem? Norton Antivirus will not install... Norton Antivirus failed because of so many viruses. I don't trust any other software because of more viruses. I cannot re-install this computer because the re-installation CD is not compatible with my computer due to the age of the console. Windows security center is also poping up too much. My comp keeps restarting by itself.

There are no "problems". Meaning, the internet is functional, Plenty of memory.

The only thing I would suspect would be causing this is too much Security software (lol), I do not use More than One Firewall nor AntiVirus.

My Main antivirus Program is Avast! Home Edition %26 My main firewall is Comodo Firewall PRO.

I use many Anti-Spyware Programs. Only 3 of which actually include Real-Time Protection.

The otherones are basicly on-Demand scanners.

I do play an MMORPG that does take up alot of Space %26 RAM.

World of Warcraft. My computer normally restarts by itself when playing this game.

Are there any tips, or ways I can prevent this from happening (it is EXTREMELY annoying).

When you're starting up the computer, hit F5 and then disable the "automatic restart" setting.

This should stop your computer automatically restarting on a system crash so you can better diagnose the problem.

I heard you can download software through the command prompt (cmd), like Firefow and AVG antivirus. Is this true and how can you do this?

Three things you should try. They are simple and in certain instances effective.

Run a "Cleaner" then a "Registry" which essentially clean up a lot of the unused trash on your PC. This usually gets rid of stuff PCCillin would have left behind in the registry and Hard Drive. (This may take a while). It will also make your computer generally run a lot quicker. Run the "Registry" fixer about 5 or 6 times until it tells you everything is OK a few times in a row. The Registry fixer should really only take a few minutes.

I have a PC virus that norton 360 couldnt get rid of?

The virus automatically opens up explorer and sends me to a anti spy/ virus web site called trusted antivirus.com and advanced cleaner.com trying to sell me anti virus software. If I leave my PC on for too long i'll have 100 windows open to these places.Norton 360 couldnt get rid of it. Whats the best software out there? Thanks

get these free tools... adaware(lavasoft.com) spybot(safer-networking.org) HiJackThis(trend.com) winsockfix v1.2(majorgeeks.com) CCleaner (ccleaner.com)

install and run the adaware/spybot updater

disable restore

start-run-apps-accessories-sys... disk cleanup

reboot safe mode w/ networking (continually press f8 upon reboot)

Run adaware and spybot deleting anything they find.

Run Hijackthis (this shows all BHO's on ur browser~very important)

Run CCleaner (Repair/delete anything it finds)

Run free online scan (trend.com bitdefender.com pandasoftware.com) remove any findings

P2P Filesharing that does NOT crash.?

I have a HP Desktop computer, a very, very new model, with Windows XP and a lot of space and memory. In general, a powerful home computer. I have Norton Antivirus 2007 installed. However, every time I try to install P2P Filesharing software (tried WinMX and Limewire), it either crashes the computer, or refuses to connect. My Broadband connection is quite strange at times. Is there a P2P Filesharing software that anyone can recommend?

Sounds like you've got a blocked connection. P2P software uses dedicated ports which need to be opened to allow connections. If your Norton has the personal firewall component it maybe blocking the connection. Turn off windows firewall also and ensure it's disabled for your internet connection (advanced tab).

If you have a router/broadband modem that's not supplied by your isp you should be able to configure the ports to allow connections.

Try bitcomet 0.73 it does all the stuff for you on instalation,port mapping/firewall config , i have tryed and tested all of them and find bitcomet works best for me , good d/l speeds

Lets me first address what security are we buiding.

I work on a lot of my friends computers and a few of them needed to be reformatted or needed upgradi

the problem is alot of them have misplaced the software cds or has brought computers at yardsales or fleamarket and never had the cds. In one case I went to a fleamarket where one computer was purchased and asked about the software. The owner of the booth was selling computers loaded with XP home, Quicken

2003, XP Office2003, and Symantec AntiVirus. I told him about the pc that my friend needed me to repair and that she bought it from him about a year ago and the warrenty had expired. I asked him about getting a copy of the software to reload the computer. He told me that the software was his own software and he do not sale it but he would reload the pc but for a much higher fee than I was charging my friend. I asked him was the Operating System Authenicated by Microsoft and he said no it was his software. But all of them are activated. My question is what does he means his software. How can he load all of these computers with the same copy and all of them are activated.

It sounds like he is selling illegal copies of the software on the computer.

He is most likely duplicating the harddrives in the systems. This can be done with a program like ghost.

It allows you to make an exact duplicate of a computer. I would not recommend using this guy at all for anything.
